Why I buy used camera equipment…
January 28, 2008
Well, for those of you who aren’t as in tune with the schedule over at Old Saybrook High School midterms are officially over. It felt kind of weird, that was the last high school midterm with “Aaron Snyder” at the top of it! Anyways onto why I buy used camera equipment…
I say toy, but in reality it’s the farthest thing from a toy. Thank god we had midterms the other day, it gave me the opportunity to drive down to Staten Island, NY after my morning exam on Friday to go buy a used lens, specifically a Nikon 80-200 F2.8 lens. I’d say I got a hell of a deal because there’s only one minor issue with the af/mf selector and I paid only $375 for it. New they cost around $900. This is going to bring about a longer tangent on “why I buy used.” I buy used because I believe whole heartedly that I will find a better deal and honestly once I use whatever I buy once, it becomes “used.” I bought my camera body as a factory refurbished demo: saved $100, 50mm f1.4 saved $200, 80-200 f2.8 saved $525… There are more but just on those three items I’ve saved $825 because I can overlook the fact that it belonged to someone else before me. Personally, I can find a few toys to spend that $825 on…. if I had it.
