By the dock…
December 5, 2007

This beauty was taken down by the Old Saybrook town dock last week. I chose the title “Until next year.” because I thought it fit the idea of a lonely lobster trap on a cold winter night, which wouldn’t find any real use for another year.
For the technical side of this shot: I tried shooting this with exposure bracketing so that I would be able to use HDR to make it “pop.” Unfortunately tone mapping the HDR of the bracketed shots really looked ugly. After spending a little time in my favorite programs RawTherapee and Noise Ninja, I came up with what you see above. In a way I’m glad the tonemapping didn’t work out, lately I’ve been overly focused with the idea of HDR. It seems like HDR is everywhere, but it’s not always the best technique for every situation. Anyways, I’m off to school. Hope you all like the newest addition.
